How do you find your perfect pear? It's not easy as a juicy pear can look much the same as a crisp one. But now there's an easy way for consumers to pick the perfect pear every time.
ripeSenseŽ Limited, a new subsidiary of Jenkins Group, have developed ripeSenseŽ - an intelligent sensor label that changes colour to indicate the ripeness of fruit. ripeSenseŽ is a world first, developed in New Zealand in partnership with scientists from HortResearch. J-Tech Systems is the Australian distributor of ripeSenseŽ technology.
ripeSenseŽ works by detecting aroma compounds given off by the fruit as it ripens, changing the label through a range of colours, from red (crisp) through to yellow (juicy). The sensor label is applied inside a clear, recyclable clamshell pack that is moulded to the shape of the pears to trap the aromas and protect them from crushing and bruising.
With ripeSenseŽ , consumers can confidently choose ripe pears that are ready to eat or firmer fruit to keep for a few days and no longer need guesswork to find the perfect pear.
